HOW DO I VOLUNTEER AND SERVE ON A TEAM?

What is a volunteer?

In the context of a church setting, a volunteer is an obedient Christ follower who offers time, energy, talents, and spiritual gifts, to serve the greater body to the glory of God. Since each member of a church is connected to every other member, we actually serve ourselves by serving the whole.

Some of the most important factors needed in a volunteer are willingness of spirit, consistency in participation, and accountability. The goal is to “play to a person’s strengths.” That is, finding the niche where involvement actually energizes volunteers, rather than drains them. Where they find they look forward to the “next time,” and come prepared.  (If you are not sure what your strengths are, there is a survey included in this section.)

Of course, due to the complexities of our modern world, proper vetting is needed for each volunteer. Each ministry has its own fine-tuned requirements for those who wish to be involved.

For the Christian, volunteering is not just an option, but a calling.

Where do I fit in?

To get started, please fill out the Gifting Survey below. What this does is help us to connect you with the ministries you might be interested in serving with. We compile listings of people wanting to serve in certain areas of ministry. When it comes time for recruitment, this list can be a valuable tool and resource for the leadership to refer to when looking to manage volunteers.

What is the process to becoming a volunteer?

  1. Once you have determined what areas of interest you would be looking at with respect to volunteering at Fairview, you may want to approach the Leader of that Ministry to communicate your interest. If you do not know who that Leader is, please contact the Church Office.

  2. If you are in what we deem as a “higher risk” or working with the “vulnerable sector” you will be required to complete the following;

    a. General Ministry Application (please note the Application may be printed off by clicking on the button below, or you may get a General Ministry Application from the Church Office or your Ministry Leader) This application cannot be filled in online as we are required to have your actual signature on the places indicated on the Application Form. Also note: we have a General Ministry Application below for Youth 12-17 for our younger volunteers.

    b. Plan to Protect Seminar (Adult Program) or (Youth 12-17 Program) - see below for next scheduled seminars.

    c. If you are 18 years or older a “Vulnerable Sector Screening” check from your local police services agency.

  3. Once your General Ministry Application is completed, return it to your Ministry Leader and it will be reviewed by your Ministry Leader. All references will be checked and an interview may take place. If you are a member of Fairview Baptist Church your application can be approved by the Ministry Leader. If you are a non-member applicant your General Ministry Application will be reviewed by the Ministry Leader and the Board for their approval.

Fire Safety Training

Part of being a volunteer or staff member here at Fairview is to know the building and what to do in case of an emergency. We conduct a Fire Drill annually, but in the meantime, we are pleased to provide for you as a volunteer, a Fire Safety Plan-Fire Drill Training Video. This should be viewed by all our volunteers and staff. Please take a moment to view this video at the link below and submit a confirmation of viewing which will be received by the Church Office and your volunteer profile will be updated to confirm your viewing.

Some of you have already taken the onsite training in the Fall of 2023 and will not be required to repeat this training as your volunteer profiles have been updated.
